Social enrichment affects fish growth and aggression depending on fish species: Applications for aquaculture

چکیده
Growth performance and aggressive behavior are important measures in fish aquaculture. So, from the perspectives of food production welfare, it is always valuable to increase growth rate reduce aggression efficiently. Physical enrichment has been verified be a promising method improve welfare. But there very scarce knowledge about social enrichment, which an category environmental enrichment. In wild, several species often inhabit same habitat, inevitably experiencing interactions with each other. From perspective nature-based such essential for ontogenesis, deprivation this environment may damage Here, we focused on two typical territorial species, black rockfish ( Sebastes schlegelii ) fat greenling Hexagrammos otakii ), found area contrast, traditional farms simultaneously rear them monoculture mode. And explored effects (through introducing different numbers fishes into environment) their aggression. The results showed that as stimulus significantly increased (especially medium high amounts), but did not present rockfish. Proper also decreased intraspecies both among greenling. Moreover, expressed more toward (i.e., interspecies rockfish) than reverse. Finally, average distribution proportion central areas standard metabolic were higher those These suggest proper effective decrease greenling, improvement accompanied by compromised This study will promote application strategy improving welfare specific provide fundamental information reducing Further research needed optimize combinations practical applications

Aquaculture and Fish Health
Introduction Fish has an enormous value as the most frequent source of animal protein for the major part of the humans, especially in countries during rapid development in Asia and Africa. All fish species are a part of the local ecology and as such has a biological and environmental importance. Fishing also gives a great pleasure to sport fishermen around the world and at the same time contrib...
متن کاملTransgenic fish and aquaculture
Transgenic fish species can be routinely produced by transferring foreign DNA into developing embryos via microinjection or electroporation. This technology offers an excellent opportunity for modifying or improving the genetic traits of commercially important Fishes, mollusks, and crustaceans for aquaculture. Studies have shown that administration of recombinant fish or mammalian growth hormon...
متن کاملThe Effects of Dissolved Oxygen on Fish Growth in Aquaculture
Commercial aquaculture is growing worldwide except in Africa where production is still low. With fisheries reaching a stagnating phase, the world and more so Africa will have to look to aquaculture in the future to provide fish products that will likely be needed. In view of this, a study on water quality management was done which specifically looked at the effects of dissolved oxygen saturatio...
متن کاملSexual development in fish, practical applications for aquaculture.
Aquaculture is one of the fastest rising sectors of world food production. Hundreds of fish species are cultured, providing an affordable, high quality food source. Two aspects of sexual development are critically important for the continued improvement of cultured fish stocks: sexual dimorphism and control of reproduction. In this paper, we review the main methods used to control sex determina...
متن کاملKey issues concerning environmental enrichment for laboratory-held fish species.
An improved knowledge and understanding of the fundamental biological requirements is needed for many of the species of fish held in captivity and, without this knowledge it is difficult to determine the optimal conditions for laboratory culture. The aim of this paper is to review the key issues concerning environmental enrichment for laboratory-held fish species and identify where improvements...
